Best known for the birthplace of the late Dale Earnhardt (NASCAR Driver), Kannapolis was just a small southern textile town. In 2006 due to the slowing economy the biggest textile plant in town that employed many locals was shut down. Shortly thereafter David H. Merdock owner of Dole Foods and Castle & Cooke Development unveiled a plan for a massive Bio-Tech Research Center that would bring hundreds of jobs back to Kannapolis as well as attract other industries.
In addition Castle & Cooke purchased the Kannapolis Country Club. Now named The Club at Irish Creek the Golf Course it has been fully renovated and new luxury homes are being built. Beautiful Lake Kannapolis (small lake) completes the breathtaking landscape for residents and member to enjoy.
